A British Columbia society · Incorporated April 2026
Service given freely, by a community, to a community.
Seva Sangat Foundation is a community society rooted in Sikh teaching and open to every person, of every faith and background. We are building our first programs across the Fraser Valley and Greater Vancouver.
Our name
Two words carry everything we intend to do.
Seva is selfless service. It is work done because it needs doing, expecting nothing in return, and never done from above. Sangat is the community that gathers to do it. Put together, the name is a promise: service given freely, by a community, to a community.
These words come from Sikh tradition, and our foundation is rooted there. What that means in practice is simple. The door is open to everyone. Nobody is asked their faith, their status or their story before they are helped or before they are handed an apron and welcomed in.
We were incorporated on 22 April 2026 in Abbotsford, British Columbia. We are young, we are volunteer run, and we would rather tell you exactly where we are than sound bigger than we are.
What we do
Three streams of work, one purpose.
Our purposes were filed with BC Registries when we incorporated. They fall into three streams, and everything we build has to sit inside one of them.
Faith and learning
Kirtan, katha and spiritual education drawn from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Punjabi language classes for children. Gurmat and Gurbani study open to anyone who wants to learn.

Community and culture
Gatherings, celebrations and cultural programs that keep Sikh and Punjabi heritage alive here, and that give the whole neighbourhood somewhere to belong.

Seva and support
Community meals, grocery hampers, help for seniors and newcomers, blood and organ donor drives, and basic needs for families going through a hard stretch.

Where these programs actually stand today
We incorporated in April 2026 and we are still building. Some of this work is starting now. Most of it is planned. Nothing on this website should be read as a service that is already running, and we will mark each programme clearly as it opens. If you need help today, our contact page lists the numbers that can help you right now.
Where we are
An honest picture of a young foundation.
Plenty of new organisations describe what they hope to be. We would rather show you the actual sequence and let you decide whether to walk with us.
-
Done
Name approved and society incorporated
Filed with BC Registries on 22 April 2026 under the Societies Act, with three directors and a registered office in Abbotsford.
-
Done
Constitution and bylaws adopted
We adopted the Province of British Columbia model bylaws under the Societies Regulation.
-
Now
Building the founding volunteer team
We are looking for people who can give a few hours a month across the Fraser Valley and Greater Vancouver.
-
Next
Banking, insurance and first programs
A society bank account, liability and directors insurance, and the first seva days on the ground.
-
Then
Charity registration with the CRA
Once our activities are running and documented, we intend to apply. Until that is granted we cannot issue official tax receipts, and we will say so plainly every time we ask for anything.
How to take part
There is a place for you in this.
A foundation this new does not need much money yet. It needs hands, skills, and people willing to be the first ones through the door.
Give your time
Serving at a langar, carrying hampers, driving a senior to an appointment, teaching a class, or sitting on a committee. Tell us what you have and we will find the fit.
Partner with us
Gurdwaras, businesses, schools, clinics and other societies. We would rather join work that already exists than duplicate it.
Give goods
New and sealed household basics, hygiene items and school supplies. There are things we can accept and things we cannot, and we list both.
About money, plainly
Our donation channels are not open yet. We are putting banking, insurance and financial controls in place first, because we think a new organisation should be able to account for a dollar before it asks for one. When donations do open, every appeal will say clearly whether a tax receipt can be issued. Read the full position on donations.
The hands that serve are holier than the lips that pray.
A saying long held in seva
Stay with us
We will tell you when the first seva day is set.
No newsletter machine yet, and no list bought from anyone. Send us an email and we will add you by hand. We will only write when something real is happening, and you can ask us to stop at any time.
